St. Mary's stroke care has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Bronze Get with the Guidelines from the American Heart Association and in 2014 the Joint Commission Awared St. Mary's Medical Center an Advanced Certification as a Primary Stroke Center. U.S. News & World report also ranked St. Mary's as the #4 hospital in Indiana - and recognized neurology as a high performing specialty.

Stroke Care Services at St. Mary's include:

  • Interdisciplinary Stroke Team
  • Dedicated 64 slice CT scanner in ED
  • A dedicated stroke ICU Step Down unit on 4 West, with unit based stroke committee
  • Stroke coordinator Rebecca Smith, RN, CNRN 
  • Weekly interdisciplinary case conferences
  • A "Get With The Guidelines" Database, including a dedicated quality analyst
  • St. Mary’s Rehab Institute for stroke rehab services
  • A dedicated Neurology Hospitalist since 2012
  • All RNs trained in dysphagia screening and National Institute of Health Stroke Scale(NIHSS) certified
