For more information about our cardiac rehabilitation services, please call 812.485.5230.

If you have heart disease, your doctor may refer you to our cardiac rehabilitation program.

In cardiac rehabilitation, you'll work with specialized doctors, nurses and exercise physiologists to safely increase your physical activity, decrease your risk of heart disease and learn more about heart disease.

You may benefit from cardiac rehabilitation if your recent medical history includes any of the following conditions or procedures:

  • Heart attack
  • Stable angina
  • Heart bypass or valve surgery
  • Percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA)
  • Stent placements

There are three phrases to the cardiac rehabilitation program at St. Mary's:

Phase I. Phase I focuses on inpatient and family education and may include low level exercise to monitor your heart rate, blood pressure and tolerance to exercise while you're still in the hospital.

Phase II. In this phase, you'll work to improve your cardiovascular health through monitored exercise and education classes. One-hour classes meet on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Your spouse or significant other is encouraged to attend education classes with you.

Phase III. Phase III is for patients who've completed Phase II and still desire medical supervision during exercise. Although staff is on hand to assist you, you'll exercise independently and without a heart monitor. The goal of this phase is for you to make exercise part of your long-term lifestyle. Phase III is not covered by insurance. The cost is:

  • $40 per month for three days a week
  • $30 per month for two days a week

A physician referral is required. Ask your doctor if cardiac rehabilitation is right for you.
