St. Mary's Camp Nota-Gona-Wheeze for Children with Asthma
Free Week-long Asthma Day Camp Staffed by St. Mary's
Camp Nota-Gona-Wheeze is a free, week-long day camp designed specifically for children with asthma. It takes place each year at an EVSC school during Spring Break. Sponsored and staffed by St. Mary's, Camp Nota-Gona-Wheeze provides children with the most current education on living with asthma.
The program is staffed with St. Mary's Outreach Services Jackie Richards, a Registered Respiratory Therapist, and Molly Ralph, a Registered Dietician. They work with USI nursing students, respiratory therapy students and USI faculty, EVSC staff, 4-H, Anthem, and the public health department staff to teach students how to use their meds appropriately.
Children learn things like:
- How to manage their asthma
- How to take their medicine
- What can cause their asthma to get worse
- Ways to cope with feeling different
- How to recognize and treat symptoms
