St. Mary's Camp Nota-Gona-Wheeze for Children with Asthma
Free Week-long Asthma Day Camp Staffed by St. Mary's
Camp Nota-Gona-Wheeze is a free, week-long day camp designed specifically for children with asthma. It takes place each year at an EVSC school during Spring Break. Sponsored and staffed by St. Mary's, Camp Nota-Gona-Wheeze provides children with the most current education on living with asthma.
The program is staffed with St. Mary's Outreach Services Jackie Richards, a Respiratory Therapist, and Laci McNear, a Registered Dietician. They work with USI nursing students, respiratory therapy students and USI faculty, EVSC coordinated school health staff and the public health department staff to teach students how to use their meds appropriately.
Children learn things like:
- How to manage their asthma
- How to take their medicine
- What can cause their asthma to get worse
- Ways to cope with feeling different
- How to recognize and treat symptoms
