St. Mary's will offer Tai Chi Community Classes 10/17/2013
(Evansville, IN) – St. Mary's Women's Wellness Center is once again offering Tai Chi-QiGong Community Classes for midlife and senior men and women. Due to the level of community interest and the benefits of practicing multiple times per week, St. Mary's will be adding a second weekly class offering at Washington Square Mall. Classes will be held every Monday and Wednesday during October and November from 3:00 – 3:35 p.m. in the Food Court Area at Washington Square Mall.
There are many researched health benefits to Tai Chi, a gentle body movement practice for all age groups, but particularly beneficial for the aging population. Falls are the leading cause of hospital admissions for people over 65, and the leading cause of injurious death and nonfatal injury among the elderly. Tai Chi programs have been shown to reduce risk of falling by 47.5% (National Institute on Aging & Emory), and achieve 55% lower risk for multiple falls than that of stretching control groups, (Oregon Research Institute). Tai Chi also reduces pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia, reduces stress and blood pressure, improves sleep quality and quality of life ratings, boosts the immune system, and improves aerobic capacity.
The cost is just $5 per class. No pre-registration is required, and participants do not need to attend each class. For more information, please call 812-485-5725.
