St. Mary’s Joslin Diabetes Center recognized by American Diabetes Association 07/26/2013
(Evansville, IN) – The St. Mary's Joslin Diabetes Center is proud to announce it has once again received a prestigious American Diabetes Association Education Recognition Certificate for a quality diabetes self-management education program.
The St. Mary's Joslin Diabetes Center was first recognized by the ADA in 2000. Programs applying for recognition voluntarily submit to a rigorous review process by experts in the field of diabetes who evaluate each program on its ability to provide patients with a comprehensive individualized education program. Programs that achieve recognition status have a staff of knowledgeable health professionals who can provide participants with comprehensive information about diabetes management.
"The process gives professionals a national standard by which to measure the quality of services they provide, " said Becky Carter, RN, manager of the Joslin Diabetes Center. "And, of course, it assures the consumer that he or she will receive high-quality service."
According to the ADA, there are nearly 26 million people in the United States living with diabetes – 8.3% of the population. An estimated 7 million are unaware they have the disease. Another 79 million have prediabetes.
