St. Mary's Designated Level II Adult Trauma Center for Region 5 11/12/2012
St. Mary’s Medical Center is proud to announce we have been designated by the Illinois Department of Public Health as a Level II Adult Trauma Center for Region 5, which covers 20 southeast Illinois counties.
This designation enables critically injured patients without access to a trauma center in their area to get the critical care they need by transferring to St. Mary’s. It also allows us to serve as a resource for rural hospitals and Emergency Medical Systems (EMS) of Southern Illinois. Also, as the only verified Level II Pediatric Trauma center in the region, as designated by the Committee on Trauma (COT) of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), we are able to provide specialized care to critically injured children from the region.
This achievement recognizes St. Mary’s Trauma Center’s dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients 24-hours-a-day, as well as our commitment to trauma prevention and the continuing education of medical staff on our trauma team.
