St. Mary's Receives Magnet Designation from American Nurses Credentialing Center|
St. Mary's Medical Center is extremely proud to announce we have been named a Magnet® designated facility by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). The official announcement was made via a conference call with the ANCC at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 19th, 2011 in the St. Mary's Manor Auditorium.
Developed by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, the Magnet Recognition Program® honors healthcare organizations that provide nursing excellence. Magnet® designation is the gold standard for nursing care.
Since our journey began in 2005, St. Mary's Medical Center has dedicated itself to this Journey to Magnet ExcellenceTM. Years of hard work have led us to this point when we can all celebrate in the accomplishment of achieving Magnet® status. Wednesday's announcement is not only fantastic news for St. Mary's, but it also benefits the entire Tri-State region.
"I am very proud to be among this committed group of nursing professionals dedicated to providing the highest quality of care to our patients, families and the community," said Darcy Ellison, RN, MSN, NEA-BC, Senior Vice President of Clinical Operations and Chief Nursing Officer for St. Mary's Health System.
As a Magnet® designated facility, St. Mary's is among a very elite group. Approximately 7% of all registered hospitals in the United States have achieved ANCC Magnet Recognition® status. It is a clear testament to hospital and our community that St. Mary's places the care of our patients at the center of what we do by creating an environment where our staff are empowered to provide the highest quality care.
According to the ANCC, "Recognizing quality patient care, nursing excellence and innovations in professional nursing practice, the Magnet Recognition Program® provides consumers with the ultimate benchmark to measure the quality care that they can expect to receive."
St. Mary's Medical Center and our nursing family are extremely proud of this most prestigious honor. Our healthcare ministry continues to rise to the top thanks to the commitment of all our employees, physicians and community partners and supporters. This has truly been a team effort and we thank anyone and everyone who has had a hand in our Journey to Magnet ExcellenceTM, which started with a $250,000 donation from the St. Mary's Auxiliary. St. Mary's is greatly appreciative to our employees, our entire medical staff, our Board, our Foundation and our Auxiliary for their collective moral and financial support.
