St. Mary's Warrick Administrator Receives Award
Carol Godsey, Administrator

St. Mary’s Health System is extremely proud to announce that Carol Godsey, Vice President of Warrick Operations and Administrator for St. Mary’s Warrick Hospital in Boonville, is the winner of the 2009 Indiana Rural Health Association Leadership Award.

Godsey has been active in healthcare for 26 years, 17 of which have been spent within the St. Mary’s Health System. Godsey is a hands-on administrator, who still gives her leadership team room to investigate possibilities and resolve issues. She serves as a dynamic mentor and always minimizes her own impact by crediting her team.

“Everybody in healthcare faces many daily challenges. This is especially true for rural health,” says Godsey. “However, the outstanding team we have at St. Mary’s Warrick enables us to successfully meet those challenges. I am honored and proud to be the recipient of this award, but it truly would not be possible without the efforts of our entire group.”

The leadership award recognizes an outstanding individual, organization, company, governmental unit or other entity that has demonstrated an ability to guide and motivate in a direction that contributes to the betterment of rural health in Indiana. Godsey has shown an exemplary ability to lead in a positive manner and direction to ensure better health outcomes for our rural citizens. Even in the face of adversity, Godsey has succeeded in guiding her organization and others to meet the challenges and overcome the barriers that might otherwise have left our rural communities at a standstill in terms of improved access to quality services needed to ensure a healthier tomorrow.

Godsey’s openness of spirit has brought the physicians, the St. Mary’s Warrick Hospital Foundation and community leaders to a new understanding of what this Critical Access Hospital can and does represent for this area. She has embraced her role as a rural hospital administrator with a contagious spirit of vigor that inspires all those around her to achieve high levels of performance.

Godsey was nominated by Joyce Buxton, RN, BSN, COHN-S, MSM, Organizational Development Coordinator for St. Mary’s Warrick Hospital. “Carol is always on the alert for opportunities yet keeps a vigilant eye toward our accountability with the 100% Access initiative driven by Ascension Health (the largest Catholic, non-profit health system in the country),” says Buxton. “I have never worked with anyone who works as diligently (and intelligently) as she does. She looks to the long vision of what Critical Access status means for those we serve. She rolls up her sleeves with us, whether it is spending a Saturday helping revitalize our hospital grounds or baking tasty treats for our hospital functions. She instills in us a desire to ask the hard questions and to not be content with easy answers. While some would wilt with the challenges she has encountered, these situations only seem to invigorate her passion for work.”

Godsey has been the Vice President of Warrick Operations and the Administrator at St. Mary’s Warrick Hospital for over three years.
