St. Mary's Receives Prestigious Imaging Award|
St. Mary's has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in MRI as the result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
"Our accreditation confirms the high quality services that are consistently delivered by our MRI services," says Dr. Jeffrey Hemmerlein, Neuroradiologist and Medical Director of Imaging Services. "ACR is an optional accreditation. I am very proud of our MRI team for seeking and achieving this designation."
The ACR, headquartered in Reston VA., awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after an intensive peer-review evaluation. Rigorous evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. The ACR is a comprehensive review of MRI technology, protocols, staffing and physician interpretation.
The ACR is the pre-eminent professional organization for Imaging Services, serving more than 32,000 diagnostic and interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists and nuclear medicine and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive healthcare services.
St. Mary's MRI performs over 6,500 MRI exams annually and is equipped with state-of-the-art technology. On the St. Mary's campus, we have three 1.5 Tesla high field magnets. Patients can receive the same high level of quality in the hospital or in the Center for Advanced Medicine.
"To alleviate anxiety for claustrophic patients, St. Mary's is proud to offer the area's only 1.5 Tesla Open MRI" says Julie Wolowitz, Director of Imaging Services. "In addition to providing advanced imaging technology, we strive to offer the best possible experience for our patients - healing body, mind and spirit."
