Healing Arts - Therapeutic Music
Why provide therapeutic music?
The beneficial relationship between music and healing has been well established for centuries. That's why St. Mary's Medical Center continues to use music as a complementary therapy for patients and families.
Some of the benefits of music in a hospital setting are:
- Reduction of stress and fear
- Relief from pain and discomfort
- Improved coping strengthened immune system
- Improved patient and family satisfaction
- Distraction during procedures
- Improve respirations
- Lower blood pressure
- Relax tense muscles
St. Mary's Therapeutic Music
St. Mary's offers live music at no charge to patients on a first-come basis. We have a wide range of musicians providing services. If you are interested in having live, therapeutic music at the bedside, request this complimentary service through the nursing staff on your unit or call our Healing Arts Coordinator at 812.485.4882 or through pager at 812.467.3882.
Prayer Shawl Ministry
Volunteers from the tri-state area also use their talents t knit and crochet prayer shawls and lap blankets. These shawls are given to patients who need an extra touch of love and prayer.
