St. Mary's LifeFlight Is CAMTS Accredited

General Safety StandardsCAMTS Logo

LifeFlight follows the industry's most stringent air safety standards and procedures as certified by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Services (CAMTS).  LifeFlight was initially accredited in 1999, and received its 5th verification in October 2011.

CAMTS is an independent organization that is comprised of 16 separate professional organizations that are associated with air medical transport.  CAMTS believes that the two highest priorities of an air medical transport service are "patient care and safety in the transport environment."  To receive accreditation, a program must first submit a program information form (PIF) detailing how the program operates, and then undergo a site visit from CAMTS surveyors to ensure that the PIF is accurate and truly reflects CAMTS high quality standards.

Helicopter Maintenance

A full-time mechanic ensures the aircraft is always in top condition and ready to fly.  The mechanic ensures that routine inspections and maintenance are completed within the strict time frames set by the aircraft's vendor, Air Methods Corporation, to ensure the aircraft is safe to fly at all times.

Pilot Training

LifeFlight maintains a staff of four highly-skilled, dedicated full-time pilots with a combined experience level of over 100 years and 30,000 flight hours of helicopter operations.  All pilots are required to re-qualify in all aspects of visual and instrument flight, emergency procedures and night vision goggles semi-annually.
