Your Appointment - What to Expect

Your Appointment with our Maternal Fetal Medicine Staff

What to Expect

If you have been scheduled for an appointment with the physician and/or genetic counselor, you should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your appointment to complete any necessary paperwork. If you are undergoing genetic amniocentesis or ultrasound screening, you will first be required to undergo genetic counseling.

This session will last for approximately 30 minutes. After your meeting with the genetic counselor, you will undergo an ultrasound examination, followed by a consultation with the physician. Depending on the procedure, several staff members may assist the physician. The ultrasound examination will take an additional 45 minutes. If you have twins or higher order multiple gestation, this examination requires additional time. Depending on your condition, a vaginal ultrasound may also be indicated. You will receive pictures of your baby at the completion of the ultrasound examination. You are encouraged to ask questions during this appointment. If you have questions that were not answered to your satisfaction or questions that come up after leaving the office, please feel free to call later to have these questions answered.

Since your visit with us is a consultation visit, you will need to follow up with your primary OB provider for the remainder of your pregnancy care. You may be scheduled for additional visits with us, depending on the findings at your appointment.

If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, call our office at 812.485.1894. Our office hours are 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. Friday, except Holidays. The answering service will accept your calls after hours.
