St. Mary's Health System:  Over One Hundred Forty Years of Caring

St. Mary's has been providing healthcare services to the Evansville tri-state area for over 130 years.

St. Mary’s has grown into a health system encompassing numerous health facilities throughout the Tri-State, including: St. Mary’s Medical Center, St. Mary’s Hospital for Women & Children and St. Mary’s Rehabilitation Institute in Evansville, Indiana; St. Mary’s Warrick in Boonville, Indiana; and the Seton Health Corporation of Southern Indiana, a for-profit entity that includes facilities such as St. Mary’s Breast Center, St. Mary's SurgiCare, and St. Mary’s Home Health Services.

A member of Ascension Health*, the nation's largest Catholic-sponsored, not-for-profit health system, St. Mary’s is one of the largest employers in Southern Indiana.

"Great Nurses Make a Great Hospital" and this slogan was confirmed in January of 2011 when St. Mary's (one of a few Indiana hospitals) was named a Magnet® designated facility by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).  Only the top 6% of hospitals in the country have received this recognition and we are proud to bring this recognition to a southern Indiana medical center.

As the first Level II Verified Trauma Center, St. Mary's is proud to also be a leader in the efforts to prevent trauma and injury.  In March of 2011, St. Mary's was again awarded verification as a Level II Adult Trauma Center by The American College of Surgeons (ACS) Committee on Trauma (COT).  In 2009, St. Mary's was the first hospital in the Evansville, Indiana tri-state area to become a Level II Pediatric Trauma Center.

Continuing this recognized excellence of care, St. Mary's Rehab Institute (located on the Evansville, Indiana medical center main campus) has achieved accreditation by the  Committee on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) every year since 1986.  Achieving accreditation requires a service provider to meet extensive standards of care, commit to quality improvement and place its focus on the unique needs and results of services for each of the persons the provider serves.

*Ascension Health is transforming healthcare by providing the highest quality care to all, with special attention to those who are poor and vulnerable.  Ascension Health, which provided $1.3 billion in care of persons living in poverty and community benefit programs last year, is the nation’s largest Catholic and nonprofit health system.  Our Mission-focused Health Ministries employ more than 122,000 associates serving in more than 1,400 locations in 21 states and the District of Columbia.
