Keith Jewell, President of St. Mary's Health

Keith Jewell was appointed President of St. Mary's Health in October 2013. In this role, he is responsible for advancing our Mission of service in the Evansville tri-state area and for providing leadership and strategic direction to the more than 750 physicians and 4,000 associates on staff.

Keith comes to St. Mary's with more than 25 years of experience in healthcare, including more than twelve years at the executive level. He began his healthcare career in finance at Deaconess Hospital before moving to Ernst & Young as a health care consultant. In 1993, he joined Franciscan St. Francis Health, where served as the Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer. With hospitals in Indianapolis, Mooresville, and Carmel, Franciscan St. Francis Health is a member of the Franciscan Alliance, a large Catholic health care system in the Midwest.

An Evansville native, Keith attended the University of Southern Indiana, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Masters of Business Administration.

Gwen Sandefur has the responsibility for the health service growth, development and integration of St. Mary’s Medical Center, St. Mary’s Warrick, St. Mary’s Warrick Emergency Medical Services, St. Mary’s At Home, St. Mary’s Breast Center, St. Mary’s Building Corporation, St. Mary’s CARE Partners, and designated joint venture operations. The Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer will serve as the chief administrative officer of St. Mary’s Health Services and as the President of St. Mary’s Medical Center. Gwen received her bachelor's degree in public health from Indiana University and holds a master's in health services administration from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Gwen is a native of Boonville, Indiana and worked at St. Mary's Medical Center and the Daughters of Charity National Health System - East Central office in various roles prior to transitioning to St. Vincent Health, Indianapolis, in 1998.  During her tenure with St. Vincent Health, Gwen facilitated the acquisition of several rural hospitals as a Senior Consultant, Network Development.  She was then promoted to Director of Planning and Business Development where she was able to work to develop several joint ventures with physicians, including The Heart Center of Indiana.  Finally, Gwen was appointed Interim Administrator, St. Vincent Women's Hospital after St. Vincent Health acquired the HCA-owned Women's Hospital in 2002.   Gwen returned to St. Mary's Health System in November 2004.

As Senior Vice President of Inpatient Flow and Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), Darcy Ellison is accountable for nursing practice and directs the Clinical Services Division which includes Medical Surgical, Hospital for Women and Children (including OB, NICU, Pediatrics and Pediatric Intensive Care), Perioperative Services, Critical Care, Oncology and Trauma. She serves as the nursing/clinical care representative to determine hospital wide strategies, priorities and direction. The CNO serves as the visionary leader for nursing and collaborates with all levels of leaders and staff to meet the highest standards of care.

Darcy is a Carmi, Illinois native and began her nursing career at St. Mary's. She moved from the Evansville area in 1987 and worked in various nursing leadership roles in Indianapolis, Macon, Georgia and Nashville, Tennessee prior to returning to St. Mary's as the Administrator of the Hospital for Women and Children in 2001.  She was promoted to the role of Chief Nursing Officer in 2003.
Darcy received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Evansville, and her Master of Science Degree in Nursing from Vanderbilt University. She recently completed the Wharton Fellows Program in Management for Nurse Executives at the University if Pennsylvania.

Darcy serves in numerous professional organizations including: Indiana Organization of Nurse Executives, Indiana State Nursing Association, ANEW-AN, Girl Culture Exhibit Steering Committee and volunteers for the March of Dimes and Komen Foundation. 


John Zabrowski, St. Mary's Chief Financial Officer

Chief Financial Officer 

John Zabrowski, CPA, MBA was named Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in February 2014. In this role, he is responsible for overseeing the financial management and planning function, providing strategic and operational financial expertise, as well as providing leadership to the IT department.

John brings more than 16 years of experience to this position, most recently as Controller and Director of Finance for Deaconess Health System. Prior to that, he served as Vice President of Corporate Accounting at Old National Bancorp in Evansville. He has also served various roles at Harris N.A., PricewaterhouseCoopers, and Ernst & Young in Chicago, as well as at KPMG in St. Louis.

He earned his bachelors in Accounting and Finance from Indiana University and his MBA from DePaul University.
